Values Assessment
Team Alignment
Workshop Goals
- Gain an understanding of what matters most for yourself and your team mates
- Discuss how our values relate to how we show up at work
- Assess if our values are in line or out of sync with our (working) habits and how this affects us
Description
Values are individual ideas and beliefs about what is important in life. Our values shape our behaviour and our actions. Research shows that resilient people are committed to their values. When we take time to truly examine what our values are and why they are important, we are better prepared to meet life’s challenges. When we are not living by our values, we feel uncomfortable, which can result in anxiety, sadness, anger, or other negative feelings. By reflecting on our values and understanding what values are important for teammates, we can increase resilience, psychological safety, performance, and feelings of inclusion and belonging.

Step-by-Step
- Time is provided for completion of the workshop during the experience, but you might consider sharing it with your team in advance.
- If you prefer to use a collaboration tool such as Lucid, be sure to set up your board in advance based on the google template provided above
Let your team know the experience will be about discussing our values - what is most important to us at work, what brings us energy, and how values shape our behaviour and actions. Explain that first, you will consider this from a personal perspective, and then the team will spend time discussing together how everyone's personal values relate to team values.
- The worksheet encourages self reflection on values in the areas of family and community as well. Encourage team members to discuss these elements as much as they are comfortable, but focus the team segment on values associated at work to keep this experience focused on team alignment and ensure no one feels pressured to share anything too personal.
- Discuss how values show up in your work, and where the team might share similar values or even have vastly different ones. Use this as a starting point for discussing overall alignment within your team and what values you might want to set as a team.
- If it is interesting, relevant, and comfortable for your team, discuss the Family and Community segments as well. This is a great way to build bonds and increase empathy within the team.
- Team members might find the Resilience Vector experience a good compliment to this discussion.
- This is a good starting point to follow up with the Team Agreement Canvas
