Better Teams Thinkspace

Collaboration & Performance

Workshop Goals

  • Discuss traits of high-performing teams, and what can act as road blockers to their success
  • Review the concept of "forming, storming, norming, and performing" and discuss where your team currently is in this process
  • Brainstorm how your team can become more effective based on this concept

Description

A Thinkspace is a discussion guide for teams to facilitate themselves. Create a platform for a guided discussion on the topic of high performance, and ask yourselves where you are performing well as a team, and where there are opportunities for improvement. What stage of forming, storming, norming, and performing are you currently in? What might be blocking your ability to deliver results? What do you need to start, stop, or continue to boost your performance as a team? By asking challenging questions and discussing solutions as a team, you will collaboratively drive yourself toward improvement!

Step-by-Step

  • To lead this discussion effectively, make sure to review the slides before the workshop and ensure you are comfortable with the concept of Forming, Norming, Storming, and Performing
  • Optional: ask your team to think about how they would define a high performing team and how they would evaluate the performance of your team in advance of the session. This is not a requirement, but might help to get team members thinking critically about performance in advance and ready to discuss.

Begin the experience by introducing the idea that teams that work together become faster, stronger, and more agile in the face of an ever changing business. Let them know you'll be spending this experience constructively sharing thoughts and working together to identify what your team does well, and where you can improve performance. Be sure to clarify that you are not here to criticise anyone's performance or imply the team is not doing well, rather that you'd like to discuss how you as a team can continue to improve.
